Gunner
Gunner is a 7 year old stunning sable German Shepherd that arrived to us with his 12 year old brother when his mom passed away suddenly. He lived a lavish life with lots of love alongside his 4 GSD brothers, enjoying car rides, going to the office with mom, doggy day care, spa days and lots and lots of ball play. Gunner has struggled with health issues of anxiety and orthopedic replacements of both his back knees.
Since becoming a DarciDog early this summer, Gunner has adjusted to the unexpected move, the loss of his dear mom, and then the passing of his aged brother a few months after arrival in our care. Gunner is a goofball. He has the most playful, jovial, loving attitude, however he is not dog friendly, does not like cats and will intimidate others with a strong bark, while wagging his tail. Due to his past, and maybe his foster mom’s anxiety, he is perfectly happy being kept as an only dog situation, enjoying his own room (who needs a home office anyway) and individualized 1:1 time. He loves to play fetch and will quickly turn that into a game of keep away! He LOVES to go for car rides and enjoys his familiar vet visits and trips to his mom’s office to see all of his friends. This is one resilient dog that is just happy to be doing his own thing in our safe setting.
Gunner is crate trained, house trained, and has gone through extensive training, yet chooses to obey sit, stay, leave it and come as his only skills. We think that is just fine, and roll with his choice.
Gunner is fully vetted, and needs to continue at his established vet clinic with the staff that know and love him and his quirks best. He is on scheduled pain medication for those old knees and hips, and is not able to do any stairs.
Gunney is living life to the fullest at the sanctuary, proving after all his hard work in his younger years, that a retired farm life is what he likes best, and we think deserves. He would do best in a one level only pet home with someone who will see to it that he is able to continue vetting at Blaine Central Veterinary Clinic, go for lots of car rides, continue to visit his mom’s work, joke with him, play fetch/keep away and let him just be his goofy, fun-loving self. Knowing this narrows his opportunities, we are happy to keep Gunney in the setting he has adjusted to until the perfect match is found.
